An athletic and multi-dimensional 6-foot-7, 195-pound forward, Childs has a smooth left handed shooting stroke and the ability to play in the post or on the perimeter. After helping Lee’s Summit West to a 20-win season, he has played a big part in the success of Run GMC this summer, which is competing this weekend at the Under Armour Finals in Cartersville, Ga.
In 11 games in the UAA, Childs is fourth on a talented and balanced squad in scoring at 7.2 points per game and is its leading rebounder at 4.8 per game. He has shot 47 percent from the field.
“I’m active on the glass, I’m improving on the range and handle,” Childs says. “I’m versatile and long I can guard multiple positions. Good rim protector and very athletic, a great rebounder and great work ethic.
“I can score when I want to and I feel like I do a lot of the little things to help my team win. I love to win and I bring great energy.”
Childs says he has drawn 12 NCAA Division I offers including July offers from Loyola Chicago, Denver, Indiana State and Bradley. He says he is waiting to see what other schools jump into the mix before making a decision.
Childs says he has been focused this summer on improving his ball handling and expanding his range, being more active and improving his strength.
“I think the spring went very well for me and for the team,” Childs said. “We had a lot of success. I feel like I did a lot of things very well. I felt like I got better at the things I tried to focus on and it’s only getting better. And the summer I think I’m more aggressive then the past years.
“The summer has been good to me and the team and I feel like I’m still getting better.”
He says he doesn’t model his game after any players in particular, but likes to watch LaMarcus Aldridge and Chris Bosh.
