Continue ReadingThe list of point guards’ from North Carolina over the last decade is one that is as strong as any other state. Stephen Curry, Chris Paul & John Wall come to mind first and have had success in the NBA. 2018 PG Devon Dotson, who is ranked in the top 3 prospects overall in his class by PrepHoopsNC is one that may soon join that list. A Providence Day (Charlotte) rising junior, he already has offers from powerhouse North Carolina along with Florida, Clemson, Charlotte, Temnessee, Wake Forest, Florida, Georgia and North Carolina State.
Dotson helped lead Providence Day to a NCISAA 3-A state title last season in front of UNC head coach Roy Williams and is planning on doing more of the same this upcoming season. ” I want to win another state championship & improve our record from last year. We want to also make it back to Dick’s Sporting Goods Nationals and go further into the tournament. I want to make the junior All-American team & to be more of a leader and to make my teammates better.” Dotson averaged 16.6 points, 4.6 assists & 3.6 rebounds last season.
Playing this summer for former North Carolina Tar Heel point guard and NBA veteran Jeff McInnis on his 17U Team Charlotte, Under Armour sponsored summer team (a year up) Dotson has shown he may be the best PG prospect in the class. “The spring went great. We went 11-1 and we’re looking to win the finals back to back in July.”
A true floor general, Dotson can get to the rim at will, strong with the ball in his hands, can score all the way out past the 3-point line, great rebounding instincts, can penetrate the lane and either score or dish for the right play, has a uncanny ability to make the right pass.
Wake Forest, NC State, UNC, Clemson, Providence , Gonzaga, Kentucky , Kansas, UConn, California , USC, Tennessee & Virginia Tech have all recently been in touch with the promising point guard.
