The 6-foot-2 point guard was able to name two schools in particular that he’s been in contact with, and another Missouri Valley school which has inquired about him.
“There’s only two schools that I’ve really talked to and they are IUPUI and Kent State. Both have sent letters in the mail and have been text messaging me. And then even though I’ve never talked to Indiana State, they’ve talked to my coaches about me,” said Johnson, who says his recruitment is something he thinks about often.
“Every time I step out on the floor I just want to win and try and get an offer. And it doesn’t even really matter what level it is — I just want to play at the next level.”
Indiana’s 28th-ranked 2017, Johnson mentioned what his strengths are as a player, and also some areas where he needs to see some improvement.
“Attacking the basket is my main strength, I can finish against bigger guys. And most guards aren’t my size so it’s a little bit easier. And then I like to hit the pull-up jumper,” said Johnson.
“I’m still working on my jump-shot, especially the 3-ball, I can’t really hit that consistently. And then I need to get better at handling the ball under pressure. Sometimes when I get under pressure I try to go too fast.”
Now that his 16U summer has wrapped-up, Johnson is looking forward to his junior season with the Redskins.
“Last year I was more of an energy guy,” he said. “And this year I’m going to have to be more of a scorer, improve my jump shot, and be more reliable.”
