Over the weekend, Lewis helped Team Rush put together a strong run at the Jayhawk Summer Finale in Kansas City. A quick point guard with a high basketball IQ, Lewis is able to stretch the court due to his ability to score the ball in a variety of ways as well as his ability to handle the ball.
He can shoot the ball from deep at a high percentage, which makes him even more difficult to guard and opens up the court to facilitate for his teammates.
Lewis says he has spent the offseason working on getting bigger and stronger with an eye towards the next level.
“I believe that’s going to take my game to a new level,” he said. “I’m also continuing to work on my jump shot. I think my ability to shoot is something that I use to separate myself from many other players because not a lot of people can shoot at a higher level.”
Lewis says he looks up to former Kentucky guard Tyler Ulis who is now playing for the Phoenix Suns.
“The way he makes up for his size by being so much smarter than his opponent is something that I try to focus on,” Lewis says. “How controlled he is with the ball, and his ability to make plays for others is something that stands out a lot to me.”
“This spring and summer was definitely a success,” Lewis said. “My team and I were able to win an Adidas tournament in Atlanta, and we were able to go to South Carolina for the Adidas Gauntlet Finale.
“I was able to grow as a player by playing against some of the top players and teams in the country. I had some games where I was the best player on the floor in front of many colleges coaches. We were able to beat some very good teams but also lost in some very tough games and that just gave me a new perspective on how much harder I have to work to get to where I want to be.”
Although he currently doesn’t have any offers, Lewis says he has drawn interest from several mid-major NCAA Division I programs.
