Continue ReadingThe state of Indiana had two commitments following the first July live period. Nike Sibande made his choice to attend IUPUI. The second commitment was that of Columbia City forward Parker Hazen. Parker is off the board and heading to Valparaiso.
The 6’7 forward is among the top players in the class and is playing this summer for Spiece Indy Heat on the EYBL circuit. Hazen already had offers from IUPUI and Ball State but he is now a Crusader.
“Love all the coaching staff and had a great connection with them,” Hazen said of Valparaiso. “They really wanted me.”
Outside of his connection with the coaching staff, Parker said he saw an opportunity to play at Valpo early and maybe often. His size and skill on the perimeter is a perfect fit for their system and he could find success at the next level.
“My incoming freshman year they won’t have anyone my size/position and I will have the opportunity to come in and contribute right away,” Hazen said.
While it is only July, Parker knew where he wanted to be and felt comfortable with pulling the trigger now.
“Fell in love with Valpo right away and knew that is where I wanted to go and just wanted to relieve all the pressure and just wanted to be apart of the Valpo family now.”
