Tyree King 6’1″ Next Level Elite Gold (Blue Springs): One of the most impressive players in the entire tournament. King enjoyed an outstanding weekend, where he scored between 25-30 points in all five games. He scored in a rather easy and efficient manner as he got to the basket and finished, scored on mid-ranged jumpers and banged home 3-pointers off the catch and the dribble. He was strong and quick and always under control. He also rebounded the ball well from the backcourt and dropped his share of dimes. Had some Division II interest going into July, but should garner more attention after performances like last weekend.
Jacob Gilyard 5’10” KC Run GMC (Barstow): As usual, Gilyard played the consummate point guard role in leading the Run GMC to the 17U championship once again. He is a tremendous floor leader who does everything to make his team better and most important, put them in a position to win. He is lightning quick on the break and he can knock down jumpers. Above all, he makes sure that all of his buddies eat at the trough. Nobody starves when Gilyard is running the show.
Isaiah Wilson 6’0″ Team Rush (Father Tolton): On a very athletic and talented team, Wilson runs the show and picked his spots when to look for his offense. When he did, he was tough to stop. He has a nice burst in the open court to get him to the basket and score. He also has some very smooth and creative handles, which enables him to create separation from defenders. On top of that, he has a feathery touch from beyond the 3-point line. He’s a good pass first point guard with the ability to get buckets when needed.
Matthew Austin 6’1″ Team KC (St. Joe Central): Impressed with this two way combo guard who plays with a lot of intensity on both ends. On offense, he is very good at attacking the basket. He has a quick first step and he knows how to play the angles with floaters and short runners in traffic. He can also knock down mid-range jumpers. Scored 30 in a game I watched. He is just as tenacious on defense. The ball is never safe in when he is in the area as he is always swiping and hawking for a steal; and he gets his share.
Jaiden Bristol 5’10 KC Pacers Blue (St. Joe Central): Very solid floor leader who is small and quick and can get to the basket. He displayed the ability to make shots and play good defense against some pretty good guards. Keeps the ball moving and works well in transition.
Adam Flinn 5’11” St. Louis Gym Rats (Lafayette): A nifty point guard who can create plays off the dribble and make his teammates better. Despite not having blinding quickness, he still has the ability to get in the lane of make a play, whether its a finish amongst the trees of a nice dish off to the open man. He is very solid with the basketball and does not make a lot of mistakes.
