Tony Burks 6’2″ St. Louis Prospects (St. Mary’s): Burks had a very productive weekend scoring the ball as he helped his team to the Elite Eight. He stayed in attack mode throughout the tournament and got the positive results. He was very good at getting to the basket and scoring through contact. He made several short jumpers in the lane and scored on twisting drives. Burks was also able to get out in transition, where he was really dangerous with the ball in his hands.
Somaj Brewer 6’2″ KC Premiere (Lee’s Summit): A strong wing player who played a more physical brand of basketball. He just didn’t play through contact when he drove to the basket, he punished defenders who tried to get in his way. The end result was either a bucket or a conventional three-point play. He was one of the best in the tournament at attacking the basket. He also displayed some excellent court vision with his ability to find open teammates.
Latroy Harper 6’1″ MoKan Select (Penney): This was my first look at this small school standout and I was very impressed with his athleticism. In one game I watched, they ran a back-door alley-oop play to open the game and he easily went over the rim to drop it in. He spent much of the weekend playing over the rim. He was also able to get a lot done offensively when he was able to slash to the basket.
Davis Aufdrembrink 6’1″ Missouri Combat (CBC): Whatever tournament he plays in, Davis is always near the top of the charts in 3-point shooting. This tournament was no different as he was lights out throughout the weekend. I watched him nail nine 3-pointers in an overtime victory over the Illinois Bears. Not only does he has tremendous range, but his quick release makes it necessary to face-guard him, which really opens up the floor. One of the best marksmen in the Class of ’18.
Dominic Mitchell 6’3″ St. Louis Prospects (St. Mary’s): A unique wing player who has the ability to play on the perimeter or operate in the low post. He did a good job knocking down 3-pointers in the early part of the tournament. He handled the ball quite a bit and scored on a variety of floaters, runners and jump hooks at different angles. He keeps opponents off balance with his old-school game and skill set.
Trae Meny 6’5″ Missouri Hustle (Battle): A tall, lean wing player who is a very good 3-point shooter. He was good from long distance off the catch when he was able to have his feet set. When defenders closed out on him, he showed the ability to put the ball on the floor and get himself into the mid-range area and make jumpers. One of the bigger wing players in the tournament.
Josh White 6’3″ Missouri Combat (Fort Zumwalt West): A long, athletic wing player who had a very good weekend on both ends of the court. He did an excellent job of slashing to the basket and getting buckets. White was also good on the defensive end as well. He also has a chance to be an elite lock-down defender with his combination of size, athleticism and length.
