Continue ReadingKansas hosted Marcedus Leech (Poplar Bluff, Missouri) in June and surprisingly earned an offer from Bill Self. For context, only four young men from Class of 2019 have Kansas offers right now.
A month away from entering his sophomore year of high school, Leech already boasts offers from coast-to-coast.
Washington, Miami, Kansas, Missouri State, Vanderbilt, and Missouri have each offered.
The list only begins with them. Beyond Kansas, which teams are vocal in their admiration?
“Kansas, Illinois, Indiana, Vanderbilt, Washington, North Carolina,” said Leech during Peach Jam. “And there are others.”
Peach Jam Struggles
Leech was feeling disjointed and out of sorts in North Augusta, South Carolina.
“It has been a tough weekend for me,” said Leech. “I haven’t been playing as a I know I can. It will eventually show up.”
The explosive wing ordinarily glides virtually carefree around the floor. He didn’t feel unencumbered this weekend though.
“Definitely not,” said Leech. “I got a lot of stuff in my head that is just lingering around. That is why none of my shots are going. And I can’t get a groove on.”
Fortunately, Leech was battling with basketball-related concerns. He was not burdened by any family or friend problems back home in Missouri.
Leech was frustrated by his usage during the event. He is a prolific scorer that thrives with the ball in his hands. Like many young scorers he will have to improve off the ball, and probably face more double teams as he climbs the basketball ladder.
“It is basketball related,” said Leech. “Not getting the touches I want. It all comes with playing with the team that you know you can do what you can do on there…”
Leech was visibly perturbed after the loss to All-Ohio Red, in particular.
“He is a kid that is driven,” said St. Louis Eagles President Tim Holloway. “He is driven to succeed. His goal is to be an NBA player. It is point blank and very plain to see. He doesn’t mind saying it.”
Despite Leech’s ambitious career goals President Holloway sees a grounded young man before him.
“He is humble,” said President Holloway. “Works hard. Sky is the limit for him. He is still learning how to play. The natural ability he has is bar none for that class. Illinois, Kansas, and the schools that he can go to during the day are clamoring to get him on campus.”
Leech spoke briefly on his first and offer-inducing Kansas visit.
“It went great,” said Leech. “I had a great time there. I liked the campus. It is just great out there.”
