Darious Thomas 6’0″ Fort Zumwalt South (2018): Talented combo guard who had his week shortened by an unfortunate injury to his right hand that will sideline him for the next 8-10 weeks, which includes the July evaluation period. Thomas is an energetic performer who was always in attack mode. When he puts his head down and decides he’s going to the basket, he is going to get there and score. In the first game I watched, he played more of a facilitator role while letting the game come to him.
Jared Phillips 5’9″ Cardinal Ritter (2018): A solid point guard who plays with energy and great aggressiveness on both ends of the court. Phillips is tough to stop from getting in the lane because he is strong with the ball and he stays low to the ground. On defense, he is a little dynamo with his ability to harass opposing ball handlers and really hawk the basketball at every opportunity.
Marco Powells 5’11” Fort Zumwalt North (2018): A very capable combo guard who has a nice combination of strength and intelligence on the court. He does an excellent job of getting to the basket off the dribble. He is always under and control and he can play through contact to get buckets. He also created space and knocked down some mid-range jumpers if defenders backed off. Doesn’t try to force things.
A.J. Somer 6’4″ Parkway South (2018): A solid wing player who is capable of scoring inside or on the perimeter. He is an excellent shooter from the high post and from beyond the 3-point line. Has added 15 pounds and looks a lot stronger. Plays hard and doesn’t mind mixing it up inside against bigger players. A good passer and solid ball handler who makes the team better with his versatility.
Drew Deters 6’0″ Troy (2018): An excellent point guard who was one of the best passers in the camp. He made all of his teammates better because he knew how to get them the ball in spots where they can be effective. He is a good shooter, but he doesn’t shoot nearly enough as he is the classic pass-first point guard. He is solidly built and uses his strength and good handles to get to the basket.
Tayari Goodwin 5’7″ Parkway North (2019): A small guard who can impact a game with his quickness and outside shooting ability. He has good handles and plays with a lot of poise for a young guard. He displayed excellent shooting range by making several shots from well beyond the 3-point line. He also did a fine job of transition as a passer and finisher on the break.
E.J. Billinger 6’2″ Fort Zumwalt South (2019): One of the most offensive minded players in the camp. He enters the gym fully loaded and ready to shoot it. He displayed excellent shooting ability off the catch, whether it was cutting to the high post or sitting on the 3-point line. He also made a couple of nice plays when he created some offense off the bounce. He’s instant offense. Just add water.
Zach Niemeyer 5’11” Christian-O’Fallon (2018): A very savvy point guard displayed the ability to handle it, pass it and shoot it with excellent effectiveness. He made some nice passes to open teammates off the dribble and scored off the drive, doing a nice job of cutting off the angles of his defenders. When left open, he could knock down 3-pointers as well.
