Mario Goodrich 6’2″ KC Run GMC (Lee’s Summit West): An explosive point guard who led Run GMC to the tournament championship. As a bonus, Goodrich picked up new offers from Tulsa and DePaul along the way. Goodrich attacked the rim with ferocious intensity in the halfcourt and in transition. He also made a number of 3-pointers, which makes him more difficult to defend. He is also a menace on defense with his motor and intensity. His athleticism, skills and high motor make him one of the best in 2018.
Damien Daniels 5’7″ KC Game Speed (Hogan Prep): A small point guard who displayed electric speed and quickness in leading Game Speed to the Final Four of the tournament. Defenders know he’s getting to the basket and even back off of him, but he gets to the rack anyway with his speed and determination. Not only does he get to the rim, but he is a finisher even with his 5’7″ height. He’s strong and he knows how to keep defenders at bay. He plays with an unlimited supply of energy, toughness and guts.
R.J. Lawrence 5’11” KC Pacers Blue (Blue Springs): An impressive scoring point guard who led the Pacers to a third-place finish in the 16U tournament. He displayed the ability to score at all three levels. He can change speeds well with a burst to get to the basket and finish. R.J. also has a nice float game and a stop and pop from 15 feet. On top of that, he can shoot it from downtown off the dribble.
Dorian Wright 6’0″ KC Keys Elite (Blue Springs South): A big bodied point guard with a smooth set of handles and the ability to get where he wants to go. He can really distribute the ball as he dropped several nice dimes throughout the weekend. He has the ability to muscle his way to the basket and use nice change of pace moves to free himself up for perimeter jumpers.
Austin Thompson 6’2″ Missouri Hustle (MICDS): An athletic point guard who plays with a high basketball IQ on both ends of the court. He was constantly getting in the lane off the dribble, but also knocked down mid-range jumpers when defenders backed off. He is an active defender who is constantly communicating and hawking the basketball. He makes his teammates better.
Trent Lyles 5’11” Missouri Hustle (Sacred Heart): A nifty point guard who is strong with the ball and has a smooth set of handles. Stays low on the dribble and has the ability to change directions and get in the lane on a consistent basis. Was very aggressive offensively. He showed the ability to finish at the rim with shots from different angles. He made a number of mid-range jumpers and even knocked down a few 3-pointers.
Cameron Van Leer 6’4″ Gateway (Pacific): One of the bigger point guards in the tournament, Van Leer uses his size to his advantage as he is able to pass over smaller defenders with his good court vision. He stays solid with the ball and can get in the lane and knock down short jumpers. Will also knock down the 3-pointer. He plays like the son of a coach, which he is. He is always in good position on defense and keeps his team organized.
Landon Harrison 5’10” Missouri Combat (Helias): A tough, competitive point guard who is fearless on offense. He can get to the rim and finish plays at different angles. He goes to the basket hard and strong and gets positive results. He can also knock down 3-pointers which makes him a tough cover. Plays with a lot of energy.
Rashaan Collins 5’8″ KC Game Speed (Hogan Prep): An extremely quick point guard who brings a lot of speed and energy to the defensive end. Along with backcourt mate Daniels, Collins works hard to keep the tempo at a fast and furious pace.
Lavell Harris 5’10” St. Louis Prospects (St. Mary’s): An energetic point guard who plays with a high motor at all times. Likes to push the ball on offense and pressure the ball on defense. Also displayed the ability to knock down an open 3-pointer.
