Yahuza Rasas 6’6″ St. Louis Prospects 16U (St. Mary’s, 2018): The athletic power forward came up big in the Prospects’ come from behind 58-56 victory over the SEMO Bulls in bracket play. With his team trailing by 10 points in the second half, Rasas became a force on the offensive end, delivering one basket after another in the low post. He scored 10 of his 17 points during the last six minutes of the game. He displayed a nice jump hooks and a couple of turnaround jumpers in the lane.
Olawale Odofin 6’9″ St. Louis Gym Rats 17U (St. Louis Christian, 2017): This long, athletic power forward was impressive in his two games on Saturday. After joining the Gym Rats last week at Mullen’s for the first time, he was much more comfortable this week. He has a nice shooting touch from 10-15 feet. He ran the court and had a number of nice put-back slam dunks. He is very active around the basket as a rebounder and shot blocker. Very impressive day.
Koray Gilbert 6’3″ Gateway 17U (Vashon, 2017): The rangy shooting guard just joined the team this weekend, but he paid immediate dividends in Gateway’s win over the Missouri Hustle in the quarterfinals. He helped break open a close game in the second half with a personal 10-point run in the guts of the game. He nailed a couple of 3-pointers, hit a pull up mid-range jumper and scored on a swooping layup in transition. Just your basic three levels. Very smooth.
Hayden Sprenkel 6’2″ SEMO Storm 16U (North County, 2018): One of the best shooters I watched during the day, Sprenkel scored 26 points in the Storm’s loss to the KC Pacers Blue. He made six 3-pointers, with some of the coming from well behind the 3-point line. He really, really stretches the floor when he is on. He also displayed a nice little float game with a couple of dribble moves to the basket.
Eric Krus 6’6″ Missouri Hustle 17U (Vianney, 2017): He continued his fine play this weekend with a nice game against Gateway in the quarterfinals. Krus made four 3-pointers and really did a nice job spacing the floor for the Hustle’s slashing guards. Krus has also been a factor on the boards as well. He had 12 rebounds in a game on Friday.
Cecil Lee 6’6″ KC Pacers Blue 16U (Park Hill, 2018): The long 6’6 athlete was the defensive star of the day with six blocks in the Pacers’ win over the SEMO Storm. Lee has excellent length and very good timing, which makes him a capable shot blocker. He does a nice job without committing fouls. On offense, he knocked down a couple of 3-pointers off the catch.
Darryl Wright 6’3″ KC Game Speed 16U (Hogan Prep, 2018): Combo forward who had a nice performance in Game Speed’s victory over the St. Louis Ballers in a hotly contested game. He scored on several tough drives to the bucket down the stretch and delivered a couple of big 3-point plays. He also rebounded well and knocked down a couple of 3-pointers. A match-up problem.
Austin Thompson 6’2″ Missouri Hustle 16U (MICDS, 2018): Scored 20 points in the Hustle’s overtime loss to Rocky Mountain to open the day. Starting to emerge as a real offensive threat. Knocked down a pair of catch and shoot 3-pointers as well as a few step-back jumpers from the mid-range area. That opened up his drive as he got to the bucket and delivered several nice finishes at the rim.
Kobe Smith 6’4″ St. Louis Majestics 16U (Ritenour, 2018): A good size sized wing player with a good basketball body, Smith enjoyed a big game against the Mid Mo Elite in consolation play to start the day. Smith can really get buckets. He knocked down shots from 3-point range and also scored from inside. He also dropped some nice dimes to open teammates for buckets.
