Tony Burkes 6’2″ St. Mary’s: A bonafide scorer who has the ability to get buckets in a multitude of ways. Burkes is very good at attacking the basket off the dribble and converting buckets at all kinds of different angles. Very creative and resourceful. He’s strong and he takes the contact to finish. He can also stop and knock down mid-range jumpers if you back off of him. He also gets his share of transition baskets in a fast-paced game.
Josh White 6’3″ Fort Zumwalt West: A versatile wing with good size and length. Plays all over the court for his high school team. Very good ball handler and passer who is capable of creating plays to make his teammates better. Good at getting to the basket and shooting over smaller defenders, but also knocked down a couple of 3-pointers against a zone defense.
Marco Powells 6’0″ Fort Zumwalt North: A strong, physical point guard who was at his best when getting to the basket and finishing. Did an excellent job of getting buckets in traffic on the back end of his forays to the hoop. Did not force a lot of bad shots. Was very good at letting the game come to him. When he was assertive, he was very good.
Derrick Boyce 6’2″ Pattonville: My first time seeing this young man since he didn’t play high school basketball last season. He made a very good first impression. He is a big, strong wing player with good athletic ability and some solid skills. Knocked down a couple of 3-pointers and showed some nice moves off the dribble. Also a good rebounder from the wing with his size and activity. Look forward to seeing more of him.
Lavell Harris 5’11” St. Mary’s: A high energy guard who made a positive impact on both ends of the floor. When he entered the game, he brought a big boost to his team’s full-court pressure defense with his intensity. He kept the pace going on offense as well as he pushed the ball and did well with several transition buckets. He also knocked down a few jumpers.
Spencer Strode 5’9″ Fort Zumwalt West: A scrappy little point guard who plays with a lot of confidence. He handled pressure well and dropped some delicious dimes to teammates throughout the weekend. He wasn’t afraid to get in there and mix it up against the big boys. He was a better shooter when on the move than off the catch.
