Kale Catchings 6’4″ CBC: After playing at power forward for the first two years of his high school career, Catchings is now playing on the perimeter much more as a point-forward. He looked quite comfortable handling the ball and facilitating the offense on a team full of talented guards. He is a big, strong performer whose versatility and strength will make him difficult to deal with. He has good athleticism and excellent fundamentals.
Shaun Williams 6’2 Hazelwood Central: An athletic combo guard who was outstanding in Central’s victory over Vashon on the first day. On consecutive plays, he threw down a tomahawk dunk in transition, then followed up with a running floater in the lane over two 6’8″ defenders. He did a nice job handling some intense pressure defense in the second half. Has good offensive capability with athleticism off the dribble and good 3-point range.
Cameron Williams 6’3″ Hazelwood Central: A young man who is emerging as a standout in the 2018 Class after an excellent spring with the SW ILL Jets. He is versatile swing player who plays with a high motor. He attacks the basket off the dribble and goes to the boards hard on both ends. He can be a matchup problem with his size, strength and versatility. Can score in a variety of ways.
Jared Phillips 5’9″ Cardinal Ritter: Tough, physical point guard who is always in the middle of the action. Phillips is a ball-hawking guard who is looking to pick pockets of opposing ball handlers at every opportunity. He is at his best when penetrating to the basket off the dribble. In a game against CBC, Phillips hit several tough, short jumpers to keep his team competitive.
Matt Leritz 6’5″ SLUH: A versatile Stretch 4 who has the ability to score in the post or on the perimeter. He really shot the 3-pointer well off the pick and pop. Can really stretch the defense with his shooting. He is not as big, physically has some of his teammates, but he can maneuver in the paint well enough to get buckets with his soft shooting touch.
Donnell Sharp 6’2″ Cardinal Ritter: An undersized post player who gets a lot done in the lane with his sheer effort and muscular play. A physical spiceman who is also a standout in football. He was very productive on the offensive boards with several put backs for buckets. He played strong and very active against much bigger opponents throughout the day.
Joe Reece 6’8″ Vashon: Long and lean combo forward who is gradually improving into a nice prospect. He has moments where he will make a few plays that will just wow you. It may be a smooth 3-pointer, a drive from the wing for a bucket or a swooping offensive rebound for a bucket. He’s still in the developmental stages. Stay tuned.
Mike Sanders 5’9″ SLUH: Small point guard who will step into a big role this season as the team’s primary ball handler. For his first two years, he was a secondary ball handler and a knock down 3-point shooter. He has good quickness, ball handling ability and he plays with a competitive fire about him.
