Here are some of the top Class of 2017 players who competed at SLUH last week:
Levi Stockard 6’8″ Vashon: A absolute load in the paint at about 250 pounds and very agile to go with his size. Whenever Stockard got good position and got his hands on the ball, you could put two points in the book. He made a couple of really nice baseline moves for scores when he displayed his agility and nimbleness. He also did a good job of getting offensive rebounds without fouling, which can be an Achilles Heel for a young man of his size in high school ball. Already holds several Division I offers.
Brandon McKissic 6’2″ SLUH: As usual, Brandon was in constant attack mode, whether in a half court offense or in transition. He was excellent at getting to the basket and scoring through contact. Converted his share of 3-point plays. When he got the mid-range jumper going, he was really tough to step. After the tournament, he took a visit to DePaul over the weekend.
Javonte Perkins 6’6″ Miller Career Academy: Long, slender wing player who is an excellent jump shooter off the dribble. Very athletic player who gets excellent elevation on his mid-range jumper. With his height and elevation, it is very difficult to contest his jumper. Can also get out on the break and finish with authority. Will also hit a 3-pointer if you leave him open.
Daniel Farris 5’11” Vashon: A crafty point guard who did a nice job getting into the teeth of an opposing defense. He does an excellent job of finishing shots at the rim at many different angles. He will seek contact whenever possible and flip a shot off the glass to give himself a three-point play opportunity. Very strong physically, so it’s virtually impossible to knock him off his dribble. Would really love to see him become more consistent on his jumper to make him even tougher to stop.
Sam Orf 6’2″ CBC: Talented combo guard who made shots off the catch and was also good off the dribble. He really made some nice plays in a dribble weave offense where he could turn the corner on the bounce and get to the basket or pull up for the mid-range jumper. Plays with a lot of confidence. Good size and a strong body from the guard spot.
Corey Boyd 6’8″ Miller Career Academy: Big post player who had a good battle with the slew of post players that SLUH through at him during their game. When he is able to hunker his 260-plus pounds down in the low post, he is very difficult to move. He plays a good power game and displayed a nice shooting touch around the basket.
Josh Nunn 5’10” CBC: Small point guard who knows how to get buckets and set up his teammates for opportunities. He is a point guard, but can also play off the ball because he shoots the 3-pointer so well. Very good at getting to his spots to the floor. Doesn’t let his slight build bother him because he he has good quickness and moxie.
Ryan Trice 6’0″ Cardinal Ritter: A talented guard with a lot of offensive capability. He did a nice job shooting the 3-pointer and he made them at key times of games. He gets to the open spots and his ready to shoot it with very good accuracy. He scored buckets off the bounce and did his share of damage in transition.
