A year ago, Thuston led St. Joseph Benton in scoring at 13.6 points per game and was among the state’s most productive rebounders, hauling in 13.3 boards per game as the Cardinals finished the season with 20 wins.
“I would describe my games as someone who can knock down outside shots when needed, but can post up many players to get easy buckets and always goes to the offensive and defensive glass and always active,” Thuston said.
Although he doesn’t currently have any offers, Thuston has heard from several schools, including the University of Sioux Falls, Truman State and University of Central Missouri.
Thuston says the spring slate with the Pacers has been a good opportunity to showcase his game and work on adding new aspects.
“This spring with the Pacers has been good, but we struggle when we need to match up with size, because we don’t have any true bigs, but other than that we are in most games,” he said. “I enjoy playing because we see a lot of talent every weekend and they are always good games which we need. I get a chance to see what I need to work on in June as an individual and as a team player.
“This summer I am working on shooting from the 3 and attacking off the bounce into mid range jump shots and trying to focus on having help side defense. Also I’m working on going to my right hand more often.”
Thuston says his dad has been the biggest influence on his game.
“He’s always there at every game and always talking to me on what I need to do to get to the next level,” Thuston said. “He makes sure I’m always level headed and where I’m at right now isn’t enough. He always pushes me to do better on the court and in the classroom.”
On the court, Thuston says his former eighth-grade coach, Ron Tyler has been a big influence.
“He talks to me about things I can do better and he gives me ideas on how to get better on those things,” Thuston said. “He expected the best out of me and he helped me see the game better than what I did.”
