However, Park Hill 2019 Roman Wilson is poised for a breakout season in 2016-17.
He started playing basketball in eighth-grade after mostly playing football as a youngster. But he has since grown to nearly 6-foot-9 and has a skilled game to go with his height.
Playing this summer for the Kansas City Pacers, Wilson has showcased a diverse skill set. He can thrown down the rim-rocking dunk in traffic, or scoop up a rebound or loose ball and go coast-to-coast.
“I would describe my game as a player that can post people up knock down open shots and finish in transition,” Wilson said.
Although he currently does not hold any offers, that is likely to change in the near future. Wilson has already drawn interest from several high major programs, including North Carolina, Mizzou and he says he would like to talk to Wichita State.
Wilson says he has enjoyed playing this summer with the Kansas City Pacers after spending his freshman season on the JV.
“I have gotten a lot better this summer,” he says. “This summer I’m working on ball handling shooting my left hand jump hook and how hard I work on defense.”
He says his AAU coach, Darin Mason, has been the biggest influence thus far on his basketball career.
“Without him or my strength coach Cheyenne Verdoorn my game would be no where close to where it is today,” Wilson said.
On the court, Wilson says he looks up to Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant.
“I look up to Kevin Durant as a player because he is big and can handle the ball as well a shoot it,” Wilson said.
