Continue Reading6-foot-10 big man Luka Garza, a rising senior at Maret School, is building serious momentum this spring after a super productive high school campaign. Garza was invited to the NBPA Top 100 Camp last week, and was among the top performers from the event. He finished second among all campers with s 13 point-per-game average, and was named to the Top 100 All-Star Team.
Garza was a late add to Top 100 Camp, but came in ready to compete. The highly coveted big man demonstrated a prolific touch from long range, and worked super hard on the glass.
“I think I was able to show what I can do. Stretch the floor. Get rebounds, and stuff like that,” Garza said about his performance on the first day of camp. “I think it was a pretty good showing. I think i can still improve a lot and do a lot more in this camp and I will.”
Iowa, Northwestern, Alabama, Louisville, Princeton, Indiana, and Pittsburgh are among the schools who have offered the highly skilled, hard-working big man. Garza is looking to make a decision and sign during the early signing period. He’s planning an unofficial visit to Louisville on June 24, and an official visit to Alabama on June 26. His ability to stretch the floor and rebound gives him a great deal of value as a stretch big in college.
“Its hard to pinpoint position for myself. That’s the coaches decision,” Garza said about how his game would translate to the next level. “A trailer 5 or a trailer 4 that can also once the offense settles is inside as well.”
Despite his soft touch, Garza still believes most people overlook his ability to stretch the floor. He’s put in a lot of time on improving his jumper to the point where he’s nearly automatic when unattended to. Garza hit 19 of his 20 free throw attempts at Top 100 camp, demonstrating his confidence from the charity stripe.
“My three point shooting is underrated. I still don’t think a lot of people note that. And I do it a lot,” Garza said about his ability to fill it up from long range. “It’s always there and I’m always knocking down threes and stuff like that. some people just don’t see it like that. But that’s the best part of my game in my opinion.”
Perhaps the most productive big in the DMV region, Garza is almost sure to make an immediate impact at the next level given his size, skill, work rate, and commitment to continuous improvement.
