The rising junior from South Hill, Virginia has produced consistently at a high level since his freshman season, and hasn’t slowed down a bit. Johnson was among the handful of sophomores invited to NBPA Top 100 Camp in Charlottesville last week, where he more than held his own.
“I think I did pretty well,” Johnson said about his performance on day 1 of camp. “I played in the flow, we played good as a team. I hit open shots.”
Johnson’s older brother, Kaleb, just finished his freshman season at Georgetown. The entire Hoya staff personally called Johnson on June 15, the first official date when college coaches can directly contact 2018 prospect. The Butler Bulldogs are the newest school to inquire about Johnson’s services.
“I have offers from Virginia and Virginia Tech,” Johnson stated when asked about his in-state recruitment. “I hear a lot from Coach (Tony) Bennett and Coach (Jason) Williford,”
A smooth scoring guard, Johnson has the ability and toughness to be effective from all 3 levels. He’s a solid defender as a result of his length, instincts, and high motor. He’s got a great feel for the game, knows how to fill lanes, and isn’t afraid to get others involved.
“I could see myself playing the 1 through 3,” Johnson said about how he fits in at the next level. “I’d like to select a school which fits my style of play. Lets me play my game. Doesn’t wanna turn me into something I’m not.”
No matter where he lands, Johnson has shown that no moment or stage is too big for him, and he’s determined to be great. The future is bright for the nationally touted Virginia native.
