A transfer from CBC, the 6’2″ Mathews-Williams stepped into a prominent role right away for the Knights as their leading scorer and go-to player on offense. He averaged 18.4 points a game as a sophomore. He also averaged 4.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.0 steals.
“I see myself as both a scoring guard and point guard,” he said. “I try to do whatever my team needs me to do.”
During the summer, Mathews-Williams is playing with the Rocktown Elite 17U team. Although he is a year younger than all of his teammates, Mathews-Williams has been playing the role of one of the team’s main scorers for the past two summers.
Mathews-Williams has proven to be a resourceful scorer who is dedicated to the mission of getting buckets. He is strong with the ball and loves to take it to the basket and draw contact. He can also knock down mid-range jumpers and will make enough 3-pointers to keep defenders honest.
“I see myself as a versatile scorer,” Mathews-Williams said. “My shooting has gotten better over the years and my dribble penetration to the basket has improved. My goal this summer to win games for my team. I also want us all to get college looks because we all deserve it. We all have been working hard.
Mathews-Williams is starting to receive some recruiting interest via letters. In the month of June, he is scheduled to attend Elite Camps at the University of Missouri, Nebraska and Central Michigan.
“I’m hoping to become a better overall player,” Mathews-Williams said. “I’m also looking to be more of a leader. I want to improve defensively because I know that’s what college coaches are looking for.”
