The 6’2″ sharpshooter has been scoring up a storm as a starting guard for the Missouri Combat 16U team. Aufrembrink played a smaller role on a CBC team that was full of talented guards in 2016. Playing for he Combat has given him the opportunity to shine and show what he can do on the court. He has been consistently scoring more than 20 points to lead the team in scoring.
“I enjoy playing for the Combat a lot,” Aufrembrink said. “We have a great team this summer and have been able to compete with some really good programs around the country in some major tournaments.”
Aufrembrink came up big in the recent KC Classic in leading his team to the Gold Division championship. He averaged 21 points a game in the tournament and made an average of five 3-pointers a game. Making a bunch of 3-pointers is nothing new for Aufrembrink, who has been putting up some impressive scoring numbers throughout the spring. He spends a tremendous amount of time on his shooting.”
“Every day, I spent 2-3 hours in the gym shooting and working on my shot,” Aufrembrink said. “During the summer, I’m sure that will increase.”
Aufrembrink is also starting to develop into a scorer who can do more than just catch and shoot. He has displayed an improved ability to score off the dribble when teams close out on him to take away the long ball.
“This summer, I am looking to improve upon being more of threat off the dribble and getting to the basket,” he said. “I’m also working to improve my defense and get better on that side of the ball.”
As he enters his junior year at CBC, Aufrembrink is looking to play a bigger role for the Cadets, who advanced to the Class 5 state quarterfinals in 2016. CBC will return 2017 guards Sam Orf and Josh Nunn, so Aufrembrink is hoping to add his talents to the mix.
“My main goals for my junior year at CBC include being a bigger leader of the team and doing everything I can to help us win,” he said. “Individually, I want to put in the work in order to play a larger role for the team.”
