White recently played his third weekend with the Dakota Niners and the team grabbed a couple of victories. Now the Niners are looking at a summer with three or four more events competing locally in two or three Sioux Falls events (Dakota Showcase, MYAB, and maybe the Summer Slam at the Pentagon) as well as tournament in Kansas.
“AAU is a fun, hard-working experience, while getting to face unfamiliar faces with different skills,” White told PHD. “I think it’s a great opportunity to play the game, and a chance to get better.”
In those upcoming events White has parts of his that he wants to improve with each game.
“I think I need to improve my mid-range jumper,” Bennett said. “I have had years where I just shoot deep threes, or I just drive to the hoop. I think it’s time where I become an all-around player who can do anything.
“I think becoming a leader is one thing I have improved on. In deep situations I want my team to know that I want the ball, and I will do whatever I can to get us a win.”
The Prairie Wolves just south of Wolsey-Wessington are the program that is showing White the most interest at the time.
“NWU has shown the most interest for basketball,” White said. “For college I prefer to stay in the Midwest and potentially major in sports management.”
White is entering his senior year with the Warbirds with the taste of the state tournament as a sophomore and coming up one game short of state last winter. This summer state is the number one thing in Bennett’s head when he steps into the weight room or the gym to get better.
“I want to become a good enough athlete that can lead his team to a state tournament. I plan on attending as many team camps as possible and lifting every day this summer.”
Can White lead his team to the state tournament? Jerret Weber has graduated but White and Darion Ogunjamalousi return after strong junior years plus the top three reserves are back so five of the top six Warbird players do return for next winter’s run. And Bennett White will be the leader.
