Continue ReadingAamir Simms has come a very long way in the last 18 months. The 6-foot-8 Blue Ridge School forward has been one of the most improved players in the state, and continues to get better. Simms participated in the NBPA Top 100 Camp in Charlottesville last week. His 8.7 rebound-per-game average was good enough to lead the event. Aamir also swatted 2 shots per game, which placed him fourth among his peers.
“They’re all great schools, and academic wise, they’re all outstanding. So it’s very hard to choose right now,” Simms said about a potential upcoming decision. “Every time I talk about narrowing my list down and just think about going to college, it gets me excited. I’ve worked a lot for this. Coming from a rough background, this is a dream come true for me.”
Growing up in New Jersey, Simms came to Virginia in fourth grade. About 95% of his family still resides in Jersey. His immediate family, and a couple of cousins live in Virginia.
“Ever since I moved here, basketball has been everything for me. My passion,” Simms explained. “There’s a lot of things I have to deal with that’s pushing me to where I am right now. To get out of that situation and help my family become better.”
One of the most well-rounded prospects in Virginia’s 2017 class. Simms is a high level rebounder and a natural rim protector who can also do serious damage offensively. He recorded 14 points and 21 rebounds in one game at NBPA Top 100, demonstrating the ability to produce among the best. Look for Simms to be highly sought after while running on the Adidas Gauntlet with Team Loaded Virginia during July’s live period.
