Continue Reading2017 PG Tyler Maye decided to return to his hometown of Farmville, N.Car for his junior season. Having spent the first two years of his high school career at Greenfield School. Winning a 2-A state championship and averaging 25 points, 4 rebounds and six assists is a pretty good welcoming home party. Maye led Farmville Central High School all the way to a 28-0 record and MVP of the title game.
Maye is a true leader on the floor, loves getting others involved in the offense, has a high basketball IQ. He can score in such a variety of ways it makes it difficult on defenses to pick a way to guard him. Lay off and he will knock down the jumper. Play to close and he will drive by you and get in the lane. Has very quick hands on defense that causes problems.
I really like the part of his game that to someone that has never seen him play it looks like he isn’t trying. He is a quiet competitor. He gets it done on the floor and lets his game do the talking.
Charlotte was the first school to offer Maye. “My coach actually called me earlier today and told me that they (Charlotte) were at the state championship game that Saturday and they loved what they saw and that they wanted to offer me a scholarship.”
Soon after the Charlotte offer, Kennesaw State also jumped into the mix and offered the rising senior guard.
“I am just focused on getting more offers and trying to win another state championship next season. I am just working hard and enjoying the process. ” I am looking forward to getting to know both of the coaching staffs and see how I would fit into their program.
Don’t be surprised to see Farmville Central HS be in the mix to repeat again next season for the 2-A state title. It’s always good to be back home.
