Continue ReadingThis spring, we have been out and about trying to find some of the top talent from around the state. We have also been trying to find guys that are worthy of being called “Risers.” The class of 2018 is starting to blossom and some have really stoodout this spring.
Alec Burton (Danville / Indiana Faith) – Alec has been a bright spot over the last year or so. He was hardly known until this past high school season and he showed a little promise. However, he’s exceeded some expectations this spring and showed more versatility than I thought he had which is a big reason for his spike in the rankings this spring.
Will O’Conner (Greenfield-Central / Grassroots Indiana 2018 White) – Will still has a long ways to go until he is a finished product as he tries to fill out his frame over the next year and a half, however, he’s been solid in both the high school and AAU settings as a guy who can really stretch the floor with size. He’s begun starting to add in different elements this spring as well, like creating off the bounce and baseline drives.
Luke Gohman (Floyd Central / Indiana Faith) – Luke is still a little bit of a man without a position but he’s turning that into an asset for himself. Gohman is a big strong kid but he’s continually showed that he can be versatile and mobile and his handles have really gotten crisp, enough to not be scared to throw him in one of the guard spots for a stretch.
Gavin Bizeau (Plainfield / Spiece Indy Heat) – Gavin is probably the biggest riser in the state in the last year as he has taken his development head-on as he body has grown and grown. He’s a lanky 6’9 and is still growing. Gavin is a guy who hasn’t had lulls as he’s sprouted inches at a time. He’s been consistent in his play and still handles the ball and moves well on the perimeter. Far from a finished product but upside continues to grow.
Wes Obermeier (Gibson Southern / Pocket City Basketball) – Wes has really done a great job in the last year of turning his body into an asset for him. He’s still a little on the shorter side for his natural position but he’s topped out his body physically which really is a plus. His motor has also improved along with his strength and he’s done well in and around the rim.
