A long, lanky lefthander, the 6’2″ Colletta is an excellent jump shooter with the ability to score in bunches at times. Colletta had early interest from schools such as Maryville, Lindenwood and Missouri Baptist. A chance to walk on at Division II Maryville is a possibility. Colletta would be a solid get for a Division III or NAIA program as well.
As a senior, Colletta averaged nearly 11 points and two rebounds a game while shooting 47 percent from the field and 83 percent from the free throw line. As a junior, Colletta averaged 10 points a game in helping the Golden Griffins to a Class 5 district championship in 2015.
Colletta missed the first portion of his senior season with an ankle injury. When he returned, he was a jump shooting secondary option with the presence of top sophomore Carte’are Gordon in the lineup. However, Gordon transferred to Webster Groves in January, which forced Colletta into the role of prime scorer.
“It was an adjustment having to become more of a number one option for our team,” Colletta said. “I had to go hunt for my shot more and make more plays, become more of a perimeter threat and step up for the team.”
Colletta was more than comfortable in his role as primary scorer as he picked up the offensive pace during the last month of the season. He was at his best during a district semifinal playoff game against Eureka when he scored a career-high 32 points in a Golden Griffins victory.
As he prepares for the collegiate level, Colletta is looking to increase his strength as he prepares for the physical style of play.
“I need to get stronger and improve my ball handling,” he said. “I also want to be able to shoot better off the dribble.”
