The 5’10 guard has become a solid guard option for some college programs and his stock is rising quickly.
This spring, Owens has already picked up interest from Army, Western Illinois, Navy, Air Force, Albion, Saint Francis, Emporia State, and Lindewood. The last two, Emporia State and Lindenwood, will soon be getting a visit from the Indianapolis-area prospect.
“Since my performance in Westfield, I have heard from several colleges and have a visit set up with Lindenwood and Emporia in June,” Owens said of his plans next month.
His play has been pretty good and during that second live period in Indianapolis, he made a name for himself with a few of these different colleges. He’s been much more of a leader than before his hiatus and that has added a different, more important element to his game.
“I think I am playing pretty good, better than I thought from sitting out a whole year,” Zac said of his play. “Still have some things to improve on but it just feels good getting back on the court.”
Coaches have given him good feedback this spring. The ability to play with other guards and his jumper seem to be two areas that are standing out to them.
“College coaches say that I am a guard that can play multiple positions,” Zac said of his feedback. “That flexibility allows them to play a little faster and makes their team a little harder to defend. They say I shoot the ball pretty well but I can still improve more on shooting and my IQ is pretty high and that I bring a lot of energy to the table.”
He has also been getting some feed back on what he needs to work on. Things like ball handling under pressure and maintaining control of an uptempo style of play are the areas Owens is focusing on this spring and summer.
