Continue ReadingFargo Davies won 21 games last year and with so much of their line-up returning the word “favorite” has been thrown around for next season at the Class A level. Out west the fans and talent of Minot have their opinion but either way the Davies Eagles look to have a bright future.
They are definitely going to have an edge on most high school teams in North Dakota because the Eagles kids have picked up another local or two and have been playing in Grassroots events as the D-17s. So far they are 11-4 after three events played.
“With the spring ending and summer ball about to start up I feel that myself and the team have made very good headway in making ourselves noticed,” frontcourt standout Ty Setness told PHD.
“We have won the Pentagon Orange Division, placed second in the ECI Spring Preview, and that is only the beginning. I hope with our previous success, and the future of our team this summer that we will be more recognized and college coaches and other teams will recognize the strength and skill our team possess.
“With our team playing in these tournaments, and as a predominantly Davies team we are making headway in becoming a competitor for our next year season.”
Setness is one of the better frontcourt players returning in Class A along with teammate Jake Paper. Setness gave the Eagles about five points and four boards a game as a junior shooting 57 percent from the floor and hitting two-thirds of his foul shots.
Setness wants to make a big jump this summer.
“I would like to improve and gain some new post moves and be able to master the hook, while being able to strengthen the moves I already have,” Ty said.
“I feel I have improved on is my confidence and ability to shoot. I have been working on my shot and my ability to dribble, so when I get pushed of the block by a bigger guy than me I can dribble around him or shoot over him.”
Setness is hoping for a big next nine months so he can play college basketball and go to a good academic program.
“I have only got some camp invites from some colleges that are too far for me to attend but in terms of a major I really want to pursue architecture,” Setness said.
To reach that level Setness has some things he wants to accomplish.
“My goals for the summer are to better my skills I have previous mentioned, find some colleges that are right for me, attend plenty of local camps, and of course to win as many tournaments with my friends/ team as I can,” Ty said.
