A versatile, 6-foot-3 combo guard, Hicks averaged 8,6 points, 4.7 rebounds and shot 55 percent from the field this past season on a deep and well-rounded Irish team. He says he is a, “big-body guard, who likes to get to the rim,” Hicks said. “A decent shooter, but very scary shooter if I get hot. I consider my self an unselfish player, but can get buckets when needed.”
Although he does not yet have any offers, Hicks is drawing a lot of interest from Division II schools and says the school he hears from the most is the University of Sioux Falls (USF).
Hicks said the Pacers are having a strong spring season, but lack a true big man which has spelled trouble at times.
“This AAU summer with the Pacers has been pretty good, but when we come across size, we struggle a little bit because we don’t have a true big,” he said. “We have a couple noticeable wins, and have been in some close battles with big name teams on the Circuit.”
Hicks said he has focused on improving his ability to finish around the rim, becoming a strong defender and improving his handle.
Hicks says the biggest influence on his basketball career has been his mother.
“She is a single mother, with two boys,” Hicks said. “She always has my back no matter what the outcome is. She wants to see me succeed and be successful in life, but also wants me to be successful in the game of basketball.”
On the court, Hicks says he enjoys watching Steph Curry.
“Even though he hasn’t had a good series against the Thunder, he is an amazing player who makes tons of great plays each night,” Hicks said. “Another player I like watching play is DeMar DeRozan, he has all-around game and is so smooth when he is on the court and that is what I try to Implement into my game a little bit.”
