Nike was one of the first players in the state to pick up an offer this spring coming from Central State. The DII program saw him early in the spring and pulled the trigger giving the Crispus Attucks talent a jumpstart on recruiting.
“They told me they were a very organized program and I would be a great fit for them to help them in the future,” Sibande said of his first offer from Central State.”
However, they were only the first and since then, many other schools have shown interest including Northern Kentucky, New Orleans, IUPUI, Western Virginia Tech, UW-Milwaukee, and Wright State. Recently, Nike took a trip over to the closest of those schools, IUPUI, to get a feel for a DI program.
“It went really well,” Nike said. “It went great. They are highly interested in me.”
“Really the college atmosphere, all the resources they have to be a better student in the class and as an athlete,” Sibande said of what he liked about IUPUI. “How their coaching staff makes sure you stay on top of your grades first, how the one on one training is getting you stronger and better on the court.”
The reason for his potential breakout has a lot to do with his high-energy skill set. He’s an active player that gets out and tries to make plays. A really good shooter with a deadly jumper, Nike also does well to rebound the ball and gets a lot of his offense off of that. He has a knack for running down the ball and making a play and it is that kind of energy and motor that is starting to shine through.
“Mostly my shooting, rebounding, and having a high motor,” Nike said of the feedback. “I kind of want to target my game as Westbrook so that takes a lot of energy and having a high motor to do.”
This summer is going to be a big one for the 2017 class and for Nike SIbande as well. June will be a little bit of a breather before a potentially big month of July.
