The catalyst of the Pacers’ championship run was 2017 point guard Jaiden Bristol, a 5’10” floor general from St. Joe Central High school.
Bristol did an excellent job running the team expertly while creating scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates. He was at his best in the championship game when he had 23 points and eight rebounds in a victory over the xx.
“Our shooters were hitting, which gave me lanes to attack and finish,” Bristol said. “I was also knocking down some 3-pointers. Winning the tournament felt pretty good because it was our first one as a team and we put in the work at practice and it finally paid off.
“Playing well and winning the tournament boosts my confidence a little, but I’m going to stay pointed and keep putting in work for the next tournament.”
Bristol is hoping that more performances like last week would attract more interest from colleges. He has garnered some early interest from Simpson College. He is hoping last week’s success is the beginning of a big summer for himself and his teammates.
“My goal is to win more tournaments and elevate my game to a higher level,” Bristol said. “I am also hoping to improve on my speed and quickness.”
Bristol is coming off an excellent junior season in which he led St. Joe Central to a 15-12 record. He averaged 15.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.8 steals while shooting 50 percent from the field and 35 percent from 3-point range. He forms one of the state’s top backcourt duos with fellow 2017 guard Matt Austin.
