Continue ReadingThere haven’t been a ton of big time stock risers yet in this 2017 class but one of the biggest has been Connersville’s Grant Smith. The 6’3 guard has become one of the more consistent scoring threats in the class and he’s brought that over in full this spring AAU season.
Smith is playing with Indiana Elite Magic 2017 this spring and he’s been just as good, if not better, than his season during high school. He’s been a guy lately that has really done well as a scoring guard off the bounce who can mix in some mid and long ranger jumpers. He’s also shown off his athleticism this spring, something that seems to be taking hold and that will be a fixture in his game.
“I think it is going well,” Smith said of his spring with Indiana Elite Magic. “I’m really seeing how well I can get to the rim. I’m really trying to work on the pull up jumper which would make it a lot harder to guard the drive.”
Colleges have begun taking notice and it has come in a big wave. Schools like Manchester, Anderson, Earlham, Bethel, Rose-Hulman, Wabash, Lindenwood, and Franklin College have already reached out to the Connersville guard. He’s gotten good feedback from coaches and they really like his ability to do many things well from the 2/3 spot on the floor.
“Really just getting to the rim, rebounding, and very athletic wing that can handle pressure but can also stretch the floor,” Grant said of his feedback.
The spring AAU season is almost over and following that he will try and set up some visits. He is looking to visit Anderson, Earlham, and Manchester soon. While still a ways off, Smith seems to know what he is going to want from his next stop in basketball.
“I’m going to look to see if it is upgraded and has a nice workout facilities, how well the campus is laid out, and what I want to major in is involved,” Smith said.
Sooner rather than later, Grant could be in the market for some offers and based off of his list of interested college programs, it shouldn’t be too long of a wait.
