A long, athletic 6-foot-7 wing, Morrison is a high IQ player who enjoys doing the little things to help his team win. He can handle the ball on the perimeter, shoot from the outside and possesses a high motor.
He is spending the summer playing with the Kansas City Pacers and the squad recently competed at the Kansas City Classic.
“It’s been a good experience so far, Morrison said of playing with the Pacers. “It’s my first year playing with this organization so I had to learn new defensive and offensive schemes and where I can get my shots from. I enjoy playing with my teammates too.”
Morrison says he is spending the offseason working on a lot of one and two dribble pull-ups along with pick and roll reads, learning when to split and create, when to hit the roll man and when to pull up.
“Overall, I’m trying to become a better shooter,” he said.
Morrison is drawing interest from several NAIA programs and says he is hoping to get looks from some Division II schools going into July.
Morrison said the biggest influence on his basketball career has been legendary coach Bud Lathrop (formerly of Raytown South), who is coaching his Kansas City East Christian Academy team. Lathrop is the winningest coach in the state of Missouri.
“He not only has a plethora of information when it comes to basketball, but also in life,” Morrison said. “He has taught me, along with all the other players he has coached, how to be a successful basketball player and more importantly how to be a successful person in life.”
On the court, Morrison says he has quite a few players that he enjoys watching different aspects of their game.
“I loved watching Kobe play, the passion he had for the game and the fire that he played with on the court,” Morrison said. “His ability to pick his spots he wanted to score from was fascinating me. Another player I like watching is Klay Thompson. His kind of low key swagger he has is something I like and I love to watch and imitate his footwork.”
