Steve Webb 6’2″ Missouri Hustle (Westminster): Normally a slashing wing player, Webb played point guard for his team this weekend. Did a nice job of pushing the ball and finding open teammates. Once again, he played with great energy on both ends of the floor. Plays tenacious defense and attacked the basket on a consistent basis.
Mark Smith 6’4″ SW ILL Jets (Edwardsville): Played with great strength and physicality at the point guard position. Simply muscled his way to the basket against helpless defenders bouncing off of him on the way. Displayed some nice court vision to go along with his bulldozing drives.
Preston English 6’3″ Illinois Bears (Murray, KY): One of the top shooters in the tournament, English was on fire in the first half as he led the Bears to the championship game. Made five 3-pointers in the Bears victory over Jets-Ramey United 16U in the semifinals. Plays with a lot of confidence and savvy as he can play both guard positions.
Corey Boyd 6’8″ Missouri Hustle (Miller Career Academy): Was a force inside in the Hustle’s semifinal game against the Jets. Boyd is starting to realize his size advantage in the post at 260-pounds. Did not float on the perimeter, but planted himself in the post and was tough to defend. Also started to rebound out of his area.
Alec Spence 6’5″ SW ILL Jets (MICDS): Spence entered the game in attack mode as he scored eight points, all on drives and free throws off his aggressiveness. Normally a jump shooter, Spence did a nice job of taking the contact and he got the rewards.
Josh Nunn 5’10” Missouri Hustle-Central (CBC): Scoring point guard continued his excellent play in the past two weeks. Did a nice job running the pick and roll and nailing 3-point jumpers and getting in the lane. Also ran the show and got his teammates involved and created good shots for them.
Jacob Donaldson 6’6″ Illinois Bears (Effingham, IL): Donaldson was on fire from 3-point range in the Bears’ victory over Jets-Ramey United in the semifinals. Donaldson made several 3-pointers as the Bears built a 20-point lead. Plays the post for his high school team, but he plays the Stretch 4 for his summer team.
Sam Frank 6’6″ Missouri Hustle-Central (Clayton): A pleasant surprise for the weekend, Frank did an excellent job shooting the basketball from long distance. He really did a good job stretching the defense with his catch and shoot ability from 3-point range. Has worked hard to improve over the course of the year and he’s been getting the positive results.
