There have been lots of prospects that have started to elevate their game in the last few weeks and scouts and colleges have taken notice. We take a step back to see who has seen their stock rise over the first few weeks of the AAU season.
Maurice Knight
6’4 – SF – Frankton – Indiana Elite Green 2017
After a year of being the guy for Frankton, it seems like Maurice Knight is taking that next step. He’s long and lanky and will have to bulk up at some point but mentally he’s strong and that shows. He’s attacking more and more and in turn it is improving his effectiveness, even against some really high end competition. This change in his game has really made him a bigger priority for some colleges as they look for the next possible breakout guy.
Anton Berry
6’5 – SF – Bishop Luers – Legit 2017
Berry is about as consistent as you could ask for and a lot of that has to do with his aggressive nature. He likes to attack the paint and whether that is with rebounds, shooting, or his defense, he always seems to bring his energy every time out. At some point, he needs to get credit for what he is. Anton has proven himself over and over again and his stock seems to finally be catching on a bit.
Haden Deaton
6’5 – SF – McCutcheon – Grassroots Indiana 2017 Blue
Over the last year, Deaton has had to make a change in his game. Before, he was a guy who liked to attack the rim and finish. Now, his role in high school has been pushed more towards the wing and as a shooter. In April, that continued and it looks like his jumper from distance has really taken big steps forward. He still does everything else but his ability to stretch the floor has made him a pain to try and defend and added a lot of value to his game.
Nike Sibande
6’3 – SG – Crispus Attucks – G3 Rising Stars 2017
Nike really wasn’t even somebody that most knew about prior to this past high school season but now he is one of the more coveted guys in the state. The 6’3 wing has a ton of upside and at this point doesn’t have much holding him back. He has risen to get his first DII offer, the first non-DI offer to any 2017 player in the state, and now he is looking to get a few more before the end of the summer. He’s been a bright spot in an already stellar 2017 class.
Grant Smith
6’4 – SG – Connersville – Indiana Elite Magic 2017
A standout Junior season really helped Grant Smith in his trajectory. He was starting to get some pretty solid recognition as Connersville made a deeper run into the State Tournament than some projected and they had a bunch of key wins with the backing of Smith. Now, Grant is starting to show off even more of his game in a different, more open style of offense and it has been impressive. Look for him to be highly sought after this summer.
Sasha Stefanovic
6’4 – SG – Crown Point – EG10 2017
Sasha has quickly risen from just a guy in the class to one of the best 2017 has to offer and has picked up some national attention. He has 13 new offers in the last four weeks or so and has proven the upside that many saw in him over the last few years. He has the pedigree and the skillset to go along with a body that isn’t likely done growing and that makes it tough to not be impressed.
