Now, heading into June and July, we are expecting some breakouts and based on the spring, you can see who they are going to be. We are taking a look at some of the potential breakout candidates later this summer.
Jaylen Butz
6’9 – PF – Fort Wayne North – Spiece Indy Heat 2017
Butz has had a solid spring to this point but anyone that scouts or recruits can tell you that the most sought after attribute at any point in time is size and Jaylen has it. Not only does he have good size, he is skilled and still has upside and that combination at the right level can really spark a lot of interest. He already has a few LM/MM offers and he could get quite a few more if he shows up that first week of EYBL down in Georgia.
Mileek McMillan
6’7 – PF – Merrillville – Illinois Wolves 2017
Every level needs big men and Mileek is one of those that is still trying to grab his first offer. He’s that fringy DII kid that could start grabbing lower level offers this July as he plays against better and better competition. He’s more of a true low post threat than what you see now a days and that still has tons of value at the lower levels. He should build up his stock there first and then continue his rise up and into this fall and winter.
Trevor Lakes
6’7 – PF – Lebanon – Grassroots Indiana 2017 Blue
The other big men that colleges want these days are long range shooters. They need guys that can create mismatches by stretching the floor, it is the new fad. So a guy like Lakes, a guy who can shoot really well and often from beyond the three point line. Lakes does that in spades and while not an ideal fit in terms of defense, he has the offense that teams covet. A lot of programs have had their eye on him and could be looking to strike this summer.
