The 6’7′ White is slight of build, but has tremendous athleticism and a skill set to go along with it. The uncommitted senior has received offers from Mississippi Valley, Drury, Lindenwood, McNeese State and multiple junior colleges. He is also getting interest from Eastern Illinois.
White helped North Tech make a little history in 2016 as he led the Golden Eagles to the Class 3, District 6 championship, which was the first in the school’s history.
“Winning the district title meant a lot to me and my family knowing I led my team to it,” White said. “To be able to see my name hanging from a district championship banner every time I walk into the gym in the future will be the best feeling ever.”
White is a most difficult player to match up with. He can post up and score in the lane using his height and athletic ability to jump over smaller defenders. However, he is most comfortable on the perimeter, when he can use his driving ability to slash and get to the rim. He converted many alley-oop slam dunks throughout the season.
“With my ability to play the post and perimeter, plus my athleticism, teams really didn’t know how to match up against me,” White said. “I’ve played on the perimeter all my life and it’s where I feel best. I have a lot of room to operate, instead of being cramped up in the post.”
As a senior, White averaged 16.3 points and 8.6 rebounds a game while shooting 52 percent from the field and 74 percent from the free throw line. He also averaged 1.3 blocks per game.
The college program that gets White’s services will be getting a sleeper from the St. Louis area who has a major upside. Getting stronger physically will help him adjust to the new challenge next season.
“Before college, I know if have to get stronger, faster and improve my durability,” White said.
