The 6’5″ Kinder chose Drury over fellow Great Lakes Valley Conference member Rockhurst U. after his visit to the campus in Springfield over the weekend.
“I knew Drury was the right fit because of the standard that they hold their guys to both academically and athletically,” Kinder said. “And it is a winning program, so I ultimately knew it was the right place.”
The versatile Kinder can play all three positions on the perimeter, plus some power forward in a four-guard lineup. He played point guard for much of his career at Festus, where he finished his career as the school’s all-time leading scorer.
“I think my versatility can help the Drury offense next year,” he said. “I feel like I could be a matchup problem for smaller guards and also too quick for bigs to try to step out.”
Kinder was the epitome of a stat-sheet stuffer during his senior year at Festus, which finished with a 19-8 record. He averaged 19.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.4 steals, which led the team in all categories. He also shot 50 percent from the field, 36 percent from 3-point range and 73 percent from the free throw line.
Kinder’s all-around talent and skill set should be a big boost to the Drury’s 2016 recruiting class, but he realizes how much work is still involved in order to be a factor in the ultra-competitive GLVC.
“I’m working on everything for the next level,” Kinder said. “I know I need to get better all around, whether it’s ball handling, shooting, getting stronger, or even quicker to guard the guards in the GLVC.”
