A 6-foot-6 forward, Bundy is the younger brother of former Nixa and Drury standout Kameron Bundy. He has spent much of his career at Nixa playing behind or alongside a host of talented big men, including Jacob Ruder, Chase Allen, Garrett Bacon, and others, but is primed for a breakout season in 2016-17.
This past weekend, Bundy helped the Missouri Flight capture the St. Louis Spring Classic 17U division where they beat the Eagles Elite. It was the first tournament Bundy has played in this spring.
“He dominated it,” Flight coach Dale Lamberth said. “He has really turned his game around. He tougher around the basket, he was very active both ends protecting the rim as well as finishing above it.”
Known for his work in the paint at Nixa, Bundy has showed that he’s worked on stretching his rage to the 3-point line as he had a game where he was 2 for 2 in St. Louis.
“He’s been the biggest surprise of my team thus far,” Lamberth said.
Bundy says he focuses on playing inside out and likes to face up when he has a chance.
“I’m not the strongest but I finish well around the basket,” he said. “This summer I’m working on my outside game and really developing a 3-point shot and getting a tighter handle with the basketball.”
Bundy said playing behind other good big men at Nixa has helped prepare him for a bigger role with the Eagles his senior year.
“Working with guys like Chase (Allen), Jacob Ruder and Garret Bacon was a great experience for me because it really help me grow in that aspect of them game because they were so talented in the paint,” he said. “Next year I will most likely have a lot more minutes and I’ll be the main focus in the paint for Nixa.”
Bundy said the biggest influence on his basketball career has been former Missouri State guard Anthony Shavies, who has trained with for several years, and says his favorite player is his older brother.
“I really enjoy watching my brother, Kameron Bundy, play,” Christian Bundy said. “He has such an a passion for the game when he plays and is so smooth it almost seems effortless. I try to be a leader like my brother is.”
