His basketball career is over, but Bax went out on a high note as he helped lead Helias to a 20-10 record and a berth to the Missouri Class 4 Final Four where the Crusaders placed third with a big win over Sikeston.
“It was an unforgettable experience,” Bax said. “Each game was competitive and had an awesome atmosphere. Playing at Mizzou is really fun especially when you get to do it with guys you’ve grown up playing with.”
Also a standout on the football field, the Bax, at 6-foot-6, 216-pounds, has committed to play tight end at the University of Central Missouri. He said he was able to take experiences from both sports to help advance his playing career.
“Playing basketball has really improved my footwork, flexibility, and endurance which ultimately has made me a better football player,” he said. “Playing football has increased my physicality and strength which I believe made me a better rebounder and defender on the basketball court.”
Bax spent the offseason competing for the St. Louis Gymrats (Jeff City Elite) for four years and said the experience helped prepare him for a successful high school career.
“While playing with them, we played against a lot of really good teams from all over the country and I think playing at such a high level of competition made me a better basketball player,” he said.
Bax teamed up this year with his younger brother, 2018 forward Nathan Bax, who was a force in his own right. Adam said battled at home in the driveway helped both players.
“Even though it was tough sometimes, I’m glad I had the opportunity to play basketball with Nathan,” Adam Bax said. “It was very fun and a great experience. I think our games of 1 on 1 in the driveway when we were younger have made us more physical and tough basketball players.”
