The 6’4″ Watson led Jets-Ramey United to the championship at the Adidas Uprising Gauntlet Series in the Silver Division. Watson averaged more than 20 points a game to lead his team to a 5-0 record.
In one game, Watson scored 28 points and made five 3-pointers in a 66-33 victory over the Colorado Chaos. Watson was at his best in the championship game when he scored 35 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in a 77-74 victory over the I 10 Celtics (AZ).
“I scored mostly driving to the basket and being able to finish in traffic or beating my initial defender either off the dribble or from the mid-post,” said Watson about his scoring outburst in the finals.
Watson’s championship game performance came when his team really needed it after an injury sidelined star guard Courtney Ramey for the finals. Ramey will be sidelined for the next 4-6 weeks with a jaw injury. In Ramey’s absence, Watson had to score and do a lot more ball handling.
“I knew that we had one less man the team usually counts on as the primary ball handler and primary scorer,” Watson said. “Courtney has stepped up multiple times for me when I would have off games and he always has my back, so I told him I was going to go win a championship for him and that was the outcome.”
Watson is coming off a sophomore season at Whitfield School where he led the Warriors to a fourth-place finish in the Class 3 state tournament. He was selected to Prep Hoops Missouri Class 3 All-State Team.
Watson picked up an offer from Creighton after his performance last weekend. He had previous offers from Missouri, Kansas State and Saint Louis U. before his sophomore year.
