We got to catch three games on Friday night and we recap the best of the best.
Club Elite Clippers Bring Balanced Scoring To Knock Off Indiana Three-D 2017
The roster for Clippers isn’t going to be the tallest or the most potent but they showed on Friday night that they will get after it. Led by Sam Gutierrez and Danny Goggans, Clippers kept Indiana Three-D at bay even though they gave up tons of size in the matchup. Goggans is an undersized forward but played with energy and strength and that seemed to do a ton of damage. Danny really got things going in the first half with that energy and he was able to score 14 points in the effort. Then, Sam took over. Gutierrez had a big second half and helped to finish things off as his jumper was falling. He had 14 points in the second half, 18 for the game. Sam Dattilo added 11 followed by Daveon Bell’s 10 points.
Smith, Kenneally Make Mark For Indiana Elite Region 2017
This group for Indiana Elite Region has some players on it and you saw some of them step up in a big way. Crown Point forward Andrew Kenneally went off for 22 points in the win over Indiana Faith 2017 Andrew. He was very active and effective playing in the interior. Faith lacked size in the post and Kenneally made them pay for it. He had 13 of his game high 22 in the first half. However, he wasn’t the only one that impressed.
Norell Smith, a 6’4 wing from Lake Central, looked the part of an emerging prospect. This is the second week in a row we have been able to see him and while not a big scoring threat yet, Smith brings a lot of other skills to the table including rebounding, athleticism, and a soft touch around the rim. Going to be a big summer for this team and between Kenneally and Smith, they should have no problem winning some games.
Sontich Steps Up For Northside Spartans 2017 Staal
Sometimes you really just need a jumpstart to the season. That might have been what the Northside Spartans got on Friday night. They got up double-digits before Indiana Faith 2017 was able to get on the board and the Spartans never really let up. Led by Stevie Sontich’s 25 points, Spartans were able to knock off a very talented Faith team, 84-76. Sontich looked great in this one. He knocked down 6 threes in the game and seemed to make big points whenever Faith was trying to make a run. The 6’2 wing hasn’t had much of a run in high school yet but he certainly looked the part of a guy ready to step up into a role right now.
On the other side of the ball, Christian Stewart was able to match Sontich’s point total and even had 6 three-pointers as well. The 6’0 guard isn’t the biggest name on the Faith team but he’s taken his outstanding high school season and made a solid transition right into AAU. Faith made a great run in the second half scoring 47 points. However, no scoring in the first half from guys like Tim Abel and Grant Pedigo really hurt.
