Continue ReadingIt started with a 6-0 run. Then Zionsville went up 13-2 after the first four minutes. That was the last time the game was that close as Zionsville wins 80-54. A strong first half from junior Dominic Genco helped to put this game out of reach early. Kokomo got plenty of opportunities early to get shots although the strong Zionsville zone made things difficult. They shot 5/23 from the field in the first half, Zionsville went 15/24.
Kokomo was down 35-13 at half and no one on the roster had more than four points. Things opened up in the second half and Kokomo shot the ball considerably better. Jordan Matthews was held scoreless until the end of the first half and then he turned things on. Second chance points really hurt Kokomo. They didn’t get many opportunities early and a 20-8 rebounding difference really put them in a tough spot to come back from.
Player of the Game:
Dominic Genco – 6’2 SG – Junior
Easily the best game I have seen from Genco to this point. He was very aggressive early and Kokomo was struggling to put bodies in front of him. Once they decided to make things a little more difficult, Dominic went to start shooting jumpers. Hit a buzzer beater three to end the half and then threw in a few more in the third quarter. Slight body but he played like a much stronger, more confident player.
