Continue ReadingTolton set up a much anticipated show down with Barstow for the Class 3 state championship with a convincing win of Whitfield. The Trailblazers led by as many as 24 points in the third before a sloppy fourth quarter allowed Whitfield to pull within 11. Mizzou head coach Kim Anderson was in attendance to watch a game played on the Tigers home court that featured several players who are on his recruiting radar, including Michael Porter and Torrence Watson.
Whitfield Warriors
Torrence Watson (6-4, 2018): One of the better young players in Missouri, Watson is a bucket machine. Really excels at attacking the basket off the bounce. Is a strong athlete, can play above the rim, as evidenced by a pair of slams in the first half against Tolton. Already holds several Division I offers and the sky is the limit for Watson.
Bryce Berry (5-11, 2016): Solid all-around point guard with the ability to run the show as well as put points on the board. Berry is one of the more athletic point guards around, with a host of highlight slams this season. Averaged 15.8 points and 4.8 rebounds. Shot 35 percent from 3-point range. Finished with 19 points against Tolton. Has signed to play at Rhodes College.
DeVaughn Rucker (6-5, 2016): Rucker is a good athlete with a solid basketball frame that can score in the paint. Averaged 8.2 points and 5.3 rebounds this season. Scored five points, but dominated the boards with 12 rebounds, including five at the offensive end.
Luther Taylor (6-4, 2019): Nice looking freshman that played some key minutes against Tolton. Although he is listed as a forward, Taylor showed off the ability to get to the bucket. Averaged 4.6 points and 5.5 rebounds this season.
Cyrus Alexander (6-4, 2019): Another impressive looking freshman, Alexander is long, athletic and has a bright future. Averaged 2.9 points and 4.8 rebounds in 21 varsity games this season. Got a little bit of run against Tolton off the bench.
Father Tolton Trailblazers
Michael Porter Jr. (6-8, 2017): In a word: Special. One of the nations top prospects in the Class of 2017, Porter can do it all. Averaged 28.5 points, 11.7 rebounds, shot 34 percent from 3 and 65 percent from the field. Is super long and athletic, can create his own shot, score with ease in the paint and has a smooth outside jumper. A one-and-done candidate.
Jontay Porter (6-10, 2018): Multi-deminsional forward that can do a lot of different things. Is a force at both end of the floor as he combines a well-rounded offensive game with the ability to defend at a high level. Has a big frame and really holds his position well in the paint. Is a very good shot blocker with great timing. Can handle the ball, has shooting range to the 3-point line and can pass. Averaged 11.6 points and 7.9 rebounds on a deep and talented team.
Isaiah Wilson (5-11, 2017): One of the state’s top point guards, Wilson is adept at running the show, setting up talented teammates and getting everyone involved. Has really improved his outside shot and knocked down 42 3-pointers this season, shooting at a 35 percent clip.
Kenan Brooks (6-6, 2016): Has kind of flown under the radar for a deep and talented Tolton team. Is a long 6-6 and has the ability to defend multiple positions. Can do several different things at a wing position offensively. Can attack the basket and is also a good outside shooter. Connected on 25 3s this season and shot 39 percent behind the arc. Averaged 7.0 points per game.
