The 6’3″ Wooten led the Lions to a 23-7 record and a berth in the Class 3 state quarterfinals. His size and athletic ability enabled him to play all three perimeter spots for the Lions.
Wooten has received some interest from Division I schools such as Eastern Illinois and Tennessee Tech plus Division II Drury. He is a gym-rat who loves spending hours in the gym and working on his game. He is a solid Division II prospect with the possibility of being Division I.
After playing a smaller role as a junior, Wooten stepped up and became Ritter’s best all-around player as a senior. He averaged 12.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists while shooting 51 percent from the field and 77 percent from the free throw line.
“I think I’ve improved the most on my leadership and my scoring ability,” Wooten said. “I’m able to score in a lot of different ways. I lead on the floor much more than I used to.”
Wooten is an excellent athlete who displayed the ability to get to the basket with consistency throughout the season. He was also a stud in transition as he finished the break with several slam dunks.
One of the biggest improvements he made between his junior and senior years was his ball handling. It made him a better scorer in transition and in the half court with moves off the dribble. It also enabled him to play a lot of point guard at times. He spent the past summer playing for the St. Louis Majestics 17U Elite.
“I put in a lot of work on my ball handling during the summer,” Wooten said. “I think it helped my overall game.”
