The 6’3″ Mennemeyer made his commitment to the perennial NAIA powerhouse after making a visit last week. He had also looked at Lindenwood-Belleville, Drury and other programs.
“I enjoyed my visit there last week,” Mennemeyer said. “I got a chance to play with the guys on the team and they offered me a scholarship. I’ve been to a few games this season. I like the team and I like the guys that I am going to be playing with.”
Mennemeyer was a three-year starter for the Trojans and the team’s leading scorer during the last two seasons. As a senior, he averaged 21.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists while shooting 77 percent from the free throw line and making 56 3-pointers.
As a junior, Mennemeyer averaged 22.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists while shooting 42 percent from 3-point range and 76 percent from the free throw line. He led the Trojans to a Class 5 district championship and a berth in the sectional playoffs. Mennemeyer finished his career with 1,451 points.
Columbia College has one of the nation’s top NAIA programs under the guidance of Hall of Fame coach Bob Burchard. The Cougars finished the 2016 season with a 29-6 record and a second-round berth in the NAIA National Tournament.
“They are a NAIA powerhouse with a great coach in Bob Burchard,” Mennemeyer said. “It’s a smaller size campus with a big campus right down the street in Mizzou. It’s also only about an hour and a half from home, which I like.”
