PHD Playoff Central: Wednesday (ND)
NHR Playoff Central. Devil’s Lake had to go to overtime last night to beat Fargo North but in the end, all of the EDC tournament games went as planned when you consider seeding. Devils Lake/Fargo North was expected to be close and it was, West Fargo and Fargo Davies rolled West Fargo Sheyenne and Fargo South respectively, and then Grand Forks Red River beat Shanley 79-62 and based on their previous games this was a bit of a surprise in terms of margins.
Region 2 and Region 7 also played last night and the only thing that didn’t go as expected was Midway/Minto beating May-Port-CG by two. In Region 7 there was a mild upset of Killdeer beating Mandaree.
The Big Stage. WDA is on the big stage tomorrow. Century and Minot should handle their games in big ways, Bismarck beat Mandan by double figures twice already, and then there is Jamestown/Dickinson. The teams just played two Thursdays ago with Jamestown the victor 97-85. What will be the case tomorrow? Will Aanen Moody’s historic scoring run hit an early playoff setback or will Jamestown not be able to score like they did in the previous game?
Name to Watch. Jordan Meidinger. If Dickinson is to win tomorrow’s contest they need him to make Noah Wanzek shoot over his length and not allow most shots in the paint to be uncontested. Stay out of foul trouble and this goal can be accomplished.
Upset City. The Midway/Minto Mustangs opened the year losing eight of their first 11 games but turned things around winning six of nine towards the end. They lost to May-Port-C-G early in the year but last night their improvements showed. Both teams were 10-12 so this wasn’t a true 6-11 game but it was the biggest upset of the night.
