Jackson (16-12) vs. SLUH (18-9), 7:45 p.m. – A rematch of last season’s state quarterfinals game, won by SLUH. The Jr. Bills have battled through a brutal schedule to another district title. They have a talented backcourt is senior Matt Nester and junior Division I prospect Brandon McKissic. Jackson has an excellent veteran guard in senior Jacob Smith, who scored 30 points in the district championship game. (Prediction: SLUH)
Timberland (20-6) vs. Fort Zumwalt North (15-13), 7:30 p.m. – Timberland is making its first appearance in the sectional, with 6’8″ senior Andrew Voss, 6’1″ senior Jahwan Sims and 6’2″ senior guard Enrique Tankins leading the way. Fort Zumwalt North pulled two upsets to win the district title. The Panthers are led by slender 6’7″ wing Austin Schwert, who can play anywhere on the floor. (Prediction: Timberland)
Hazelwood Central (25-4) vs. Chaminade (23-5), 6 p.m. – A rematch of last year’s state quarterfinals. Nationally ranked Chaminade and McDonald’s All-American Jayson Tatum are focused to finish the job this year. Hazelwood Central is a big first obstacle as the Hawks are led by Kansas State-bound senior Xavier Sneed. (Prediction: Chaminade)
Lafayette (21-7) vs. CBC (19-8), 7:45 p.m. – CBC will rely on its stellar senior backcourt of Jordan Barnes and Christian Willis for one final run. Lafayette has put together another fine season with much improved 6’5″ senior forward Luke Finley leading the way. Junior guard Adam Flinn had a big district tournament. (Prediction: CBC)
Blue Springs South (15-11) vs. Waynesville (15-12), 7:45 p.m. – Defending champion Blue Springs South stayed alive behind the play of stellar senior point guard K.J. Robinson and senior forward Briley Moore-McKinney. Waynesville has a talented group of guards, led by Joe Johnson and Dwayne Morton. (Prediction: Blue Springs South)
Kickapoo (26-2) vs. Nixa (23-5), 7:45 p.m. – Another showdown of this Southwest region powers. Kickapoo junior Jared Ridder had an outstanding season. The Chiefs are loaded with talented guards. Nixa is coming off an impressive victory over Republic for the district title. Senior post player Chase Allen is hoping to lead the upset. (Prediction: Kickapoo)
Raymore-Peculiar (16-12) vs. Lee’s Summit (27-0), 4:45 p.m. – Lee’s Summit is one of two undefeated teams left in the state. Seniors Blake Spellman and Nick Larkin form a tremendous backcourt. Ray-Pec upset Lee’s Summit West for a district title. Twins Nick and Nate Jansen are a nice backcourt for Ray-Pec. (Prediction: Lee’s Summit)
Liberty North (24-3) vs. Park Hill South (15-10), 8:15 p.m. – Two of the state’s top bigs are on display in this game in 6’9″ senior Michael Hughes of Liberty North and 6’7″ Ryan Welty of South. The X factor in this one could be talented freshman guard Lamel Robinson of Park Hill South. (Prediction: Park Hill South)
