Bloomfield (26-3) vs. Thayer (25-4), 7:45 p.m. – Bloomfield knocked off the defending state champions Scott County Central to advance. Senior guard Tim Hector scored 19 points. Senior forward Noah Vandiver is the top player. Thayer returns to the sectionals this season behind 6’1″ senior Ayden Henry, who averages 20 points. (Prediction:Bloomfield)
Ellington (24-3) vs. Clopton (23-4), 7:45 p.m. – A contrast in styles as Ellington relies on its frontcourt duo of 6’4″ Marshawn Morrisey and 6’5″ Wes Sharpe. A much smaller Clopton team will rely on its pressure defense, which is led by 5’10” guard Luke Adams, who averages 17 points. (Prediction: Ellington)
Canton (19-9) vs. Knox County (19-9), 7:45 p.m. – A Final Four participant last year, Canton returns to the sectionals with a late surge, led by senior Logan Brown. Knox County is led by Noah Tolton and Nick Edwards. The two teams split their two meetings last season, each being a close game. (Prediction: Canton)
Westran (20-8) vs. Iberia (25-4), 7:45 p.m. – Another battle of speed vs. size as Westran is paced by its excellent backcourt duo of 5’10” Matt Edwards and 6’0″ Jacob Densmore. Iberia will rely on its sizable duo of 6’10” Missouri Southern recruit Dexter Frisbie and 6’6″ senior Riley Halley. (Prediction: Iberia)
Hartville (25-4) vs. Mansfield (21-7), 7:45 p.m. – Hartville is ranked No. 1 in the state and rolling behind 6’4″ senior Ryan Ward and senior guard Grant Dedman. Mansfield has a promising young post player in 6’8″ freshman Dylan Caruso, who averages 12 points. Hartville won the first meeting 70-26 on Feb. 11. (Prediction: Hartville)
Marionville (19-10) vs. Purdy (19-8), 7:45 p.m. – Marionville has a talented player in 6’2″ senior Lathan Kerans, who averages close to 20 points. Purdy is led by a trio of 5’8″ guards in Luis Cruz, Jordan Salazar and Raul Garcia. (Prediction: Marionville)
Rich Hill (28-0) vs. Skyline (16-11), 7:45 p.m. – Rich Hill is the only undefeated team left in the Class 2 tournament. They are led by 6’1″ Bryant Courter, a track and field star who is also an excellent baller. Skyline features Dylan Mountain, who scored 30 points in the district finals. Rich Hill won the first meeting 75-62. (Prediction: Rich Hill)
Wellington (27-1) vs. Penney (21-3), 7:45 p.m. – A very tasty matchup between two teams that can really points points on the board with balanced scoring. Wellington has three players in double figures, led by 6’2″ senior Tristan Green, who averages 15 points a game. Penney has four players in double figures, led by athletic sophomore LaTroy Harper, who averages 18 points. (Prediction: Wellington)
