We have Lawrence North’s Dexter Shouse ranked in the Top 3 overall. He’s got the makings of a high-end talent and should begin this summer as a bit of a coming out party. He’s got plenty of playing time for Lawrence North but they have a few seniors who have been guiding him through his first season. In a year’s time, Dexter will be a fixture on that starting rotation.
I’ve also really come to like the middle of this group. Castle’s Alex Hemenway is a versatile guy with size and a little athleticism. Will be interesting to see how he develops because his ball skills are pretty tight and might still have a little more height in him. Nelson Mbongo from up at West Lafayette is the same way with his versatility. He’s really long and decently athletic. He’ll be pretty solid down the road as he gets more and more playing time but for as young and raw as he is, Nelson has plenty of skill.
Over the summer, there are a few names on this list that could become much bigger. I like Brebeuf’s Spencer Reist as a do-it-all guard who will play for Indiana Elite. Comes off as a shooter but can handle and pass the ball really well. Caleb Redman of Pike could take a big jump forward. Tough for anyone to get minutes at Pike with how much talent they have but expect big things sooner rather than later from him. Also, Eli Pancol of Pendleton is a guy that could really move up the rankings if he continues to develop. Big, strong guard who has shown spurts of aggressiveness.
With all that said, here is the look at the crop of 2019 Shooting Guards.
