A left hander with a devastating cross over, Johal is at his best in the open court where he weaves his way through traffic and finishes with either hand.
As a freshman last season, Johal built momentum and capped the season by averaging 20 points per game over the final month of the season. That momentum has carried over to this season and he is once again capping a season by playing some of his best basketball.
On Tuesday, Johal scored 24 points in a loss to No. 4 ranked Kickapoo, then took out his frustrations against Lebanon in a run away 80-39 win on Thursday. Johal scored a career-high 41 points the third highest total in school history. With the win, Glendale is now 13-8 overall and 5-1 in the Ozark Conference.
“It (the season) is going pretty good so far, we have a few tough losses and stuff like that,” Johal said. “My role has changed a lost as last year I was a freshman and was just getting used to things. This year, it is time for me to start scoring more, play defense and be active at both ends of the floor.
“I play defense, score, get rebounds and run the floor, whatever coach wants me too. I need to work on my defense for sure, being active 24-7. Always being in the game and being active, being all over the floor, getting on the boards, pushing the ball up the floor and getting my teammates open and helping my teammates get better as well as myself.”
At 6-foot-3, Johal also has the ability to defend, rebound and even block a shot or two in the paint. He already has offered from Jackson State and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and says he is also hearing from Nebraska, Creighton, Virginia, Illinois State, Oregon and Drake.
Johal said he is a big Kansas Jayhawk fan, but he has not yet had any contact with the school.
“I grew up a Jayhawk fan and I really like their style of play and they are obviously one of the best programs in the country every year,” Johal said.
Johal said he hopes to make a decision by the fall of his senior year.
“I want to finish up on the AAU circuit and see what schools are contacting me at the time,” Johal said.
Johal has run with Nixa based Yanders Law, which is run by former Missouri State University guard Rob Yanders.
“It has helped me a lot, I have a lot of freedom there,” Johal said. “I can go up to that gym any time and he will work me out. Ever since I have gone to his gym he has helped make me better and I always know I am improving when I am with Rob (Yanders).”
